NNPDF Research Request for ASMD
The NNPDF Central Office has received a research request for ASMD (NPA/NPB) that has been approved by the Scientific Advisory Board. Please see below:
Researchers at Montefiore Medical Center and Columbia University Medical Center are collaborating on a study to determine the prevalence of Parkinson’s disease in patients with Niemann-Pick disease Types A and B and their first-degree family members.
Results from this study will improve scientific understanding of both diseases and may have important implications for genetic counseling of individuals with ASMD mutations.
Participation in this study requires completion of an online, anonymous questionnaire, which asks for basic health and demographic information and about the family history of Parkinson’s disease in the subject’s parents, children and siblings. The questionnaire should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. In order to ensure that the results of this study are meaningful, it is important that both individuals with and without any family history of Parkinson’s disease complete the full survey.
